Success Stories

At Biltmore Housing, we firmly believe that true recovery and lasting stability begin with the support of a strong, inclusive community. Every resident who walks through our doors brings with them a unique story of resilience, strength, personal growth, and meaningful transformation. These inspiring success stories demonstrate the incredible progress that can be achieved when individuals are provided with structure, consistent support, and a genuine opportunity to rebuild their lives. We are proud to share their journeys as a powerful reminder that hope, renewal, and a fresh start truly live here at Biltmore Housing.

Looking back on my story, I never thought I’d be where I am today and it was made possible with the help of Biltmore Housing. They gave me the chance when I thought I didn’t deserve it. Through their program I was able to relearn how to be a productive citizen and start building the foundation to the life I could be proud of. With the support and community built between the houses I have been able to reach goals I never imagined possible. Now I have multiple years clean, I became the house manager of Biltmore Housing, I am a peer support, I work in a treatment facility, I have rebuilt the relationships with my children,  I finally have my license back after 10 years and was able to buy a brand new car. I believe this program played a big and valuable role in my recovery. Today I finally live a life that I am truly proud of.

When I think about my journey, Biltmore Housing was one of the biggest stepping stones that helped me get where I am today. At a time when I really needed stability and support, they gave me more than just a place to live, they gave me the space to rebuild my life. Because of that foundation, I’ve been able to grow, keep moving forward and create a better future for myself. I’ll always be grateful for what Biltmore gave me. I am a peer support now, have my own apartment, I bought my own brand new car, and I have an amazing job that I love!! Alvin Long truly saved my life.

My journey started at Biltmore housing. I was new in recovery and no where to go. Not only did they provide me with a place to live they helped me with finding a job. The girls in the house were not only roommates they become life long sisters. Alvin was amazing. I still remember his speech when I first moved in and I'll never forget it. He held true to it. If we needed him he was only a call away. Anytime I had an issue something was bothering me or good news he became my 1st to call and he always listened and gave the best advice... They helped me get the courage I needed to stay on the road to recovery and accomplish things I didn't see possible. After the hurricane I moved back home but still call alvin and the girls when I have good news or im struggling and still they answer and are here if I need. Since leaving biltmore housing I'm still clean and doing better than ever. 2 months after returning home I got my daughter back. She lives with me full time now. I have a great job that I actually enjoy. I wouldn't be where I am today without Biltmore housing.

Walking into Alvin's house for the first time felt like my life had suddenly been taken over, and I was no longer in control. I went from having my freedom to having a curfew, being told where I wasn't allowed to go, being forced to join the workforce, and staying in compliance with my probation. And I kicked and butted the whole way. I was even asked to leave just a couple of days in. After some further conversation between my main support group, it was decided that I move into a new house in a different location, but still ran by Alvin. And there I was, surrounded by the girls in my home. I soon came to realize that Alvin was truly my biggest cheerleader, and I decided then to give control over. When I did, it all started to fall into place. I had a job, my probation was in good standing, I started to learn how to be comfortable alone and enjoy my own company. I started seeing my daughter every weekend and was even allowed to bring her to the house. It wasn’t long before I realized how much growth had happened. If it wasn’t for him and the girls in my house, I think I would have gone back out.

With the guidance and support from him and my house managers, especially Malea, I don't think I'd be where I am today. I'm now in my own home, support myself with no help, and I have my daughter full time. We are both thriving together. I have learned so much through this whole experience, and I would suggest to anyone who is still struggling to go through him. He gives just enough freedom to be able to make mistakes and learn and grow from them, all while still providing the structure and discipline needed to sustain sobriety. When I entered one of the houses, I came from a two-week stay in rehab, and before that, about a month in jail. I was 53 days sober at the time, and I am proud to say I am now over two years — 8/30/23.

If I ever fell, Alvin would be my first call to get back on track. I'm so very thankful and blessed I was able to go through this experience with him being my biggest support.
