Alvin’s Story

My journey in recovery began in 2007 after multiple encounters with the justice system and a short stay in prison. I realized that living the life of an addict no longer served me, and it was time for a change. After completing treatment at JFK ADACT and receiving incredible support from my community, my life took a new direction.

The time I have been clean is a testament to the fact that our past does not define our future — it shows what is possible when we commit to change.

I found my calling in helping others who are seeking their own path to recovery. Through extensive training, including Peer Support Training, I learned how to use my personal experience to guide and support others on their journeys.

I have also served as a board member with Homeward Bound, bringing the perspective of lived experience to help shape programs and policies that make a real difference in people’s lives.
